Jack E. Oakes

Jack E. Oakes, 85, of Davenport, FL passed away on December 23, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 20, 1936 in Davenport, FL to George Robert and Mary Alberta Ivey Oakes. Jack graduated from Haines City Senior High School in 1954, worked as a heavy equipment dragline operator for 7 years, then went to work for Citrus Enterprises as a mechanic & truck driver for 11 years and last he went into business with his father at O & O Trucking Company for 60 plus years, retiring in 2005. He was of the Christian faith. Jack loved racing cars in his younger years. He enjoyed spending time at his shop, fishing, hunting, and air boat rides. Family was everything to him. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. They meant the world to him. Jack truly enjoyed taking his grands to school and conversating with them. He will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary; and his wife, Lois Virginia Oakes. Jack leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, Steven Lee Oakes, Kevin Oakes and wife, Carrie Welch, and Derren Eugene Oakes and wife, Nancy all of Davenport, FL; daughter, Robyn Benge and husband, Tony of Winter Park, FL; grandchildren, Hayden, Jodi, Julia, Amanda, Tyson, Bryan, Justin, and Emilie; great grandchildren, Bryson, Evan, Laney, Knox, Chloe, Ashlin, Jackson, Wyatt, Isabelle, Hunter, Colen, Carter, Carlie, Justin, Lane, Scarlett, Kaylee, Kourtni, Haylen; and great great grandchildren, Sophia, Landon, Karter, and Kendal. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 4:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. all at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL. Final resting place will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Davenport, FL.
