John A. “Jack” age 89, of Woodbury, formerly of Aitkin and St. Paul, on May 17, 2016. Jack was preceded in death by daughter Cheryl, first wife Betty, parents Arnold and Ellen, sister Cathy and brother Don. He is survived by wife Helen, daughter Susan (Bruce) Rydberg of Mabank, TX, son Steve (Dorie) Steffes of Lakeville, step sons Tim (Alice) Block of Woodbury, Greg (Connie) Block of South St Paul and step daughter Linda (Mike) Everett, of Albertville. Also survived by brother Mike Steffes, of St. Paul, as well as three grandsons and five great grandchildren. Jack was a WWII veteran serving aboard the USS Orange (PF-43) in the Pacific and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, Amvets and the Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and a 37-year employee of Koch Refining, later Flint Hills Resources, in Pine Bend. In his retirement years, Jack enjoyed the lake homes, travel, winters in Arizona, fishing, golf and watching football. Visitation will be 4-7PM Sunday, May 22at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul, 651-228-1006 and at church ½ hour before the Mass. Mass of Christian Burial 10AM Monday, May 23at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Summit and Lexington Avenues, St. Paul. Burial with Military Honors at Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights. Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society.
