James "Brett" Caldwell
February 15th, 1968 - March 23rd, 2023
James Burritt (Brett) Caldwell, age 55, of New York, New York, died on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Fred Rayford Caldwell and Judith Ann Caldwell. Brett was a graduate of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and Furman University, where he was on the men’s tennis team and a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. An avid traveler, Brett recently returned from trips to Puerto Vallarta and Paris where he celebrated his 55th birthday with friends. Brett enjoyed spending time outdoors hiking and playing tennis. Brett is survived by his aunts Kathy Birge, Judy Birge, Kris Birge, Bett Caldwell, uncles Bob Birge, Tom Birge, Dwight Caldwell and numerous cousins, as well as friends in Columbia, South Carolina and New York, New York. There will be a service held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Thompson Funeral Home located at 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until time of the service. Memorials may be made to the PAALS of Columbia, The American Diabetes Association, or Epworth Children’s Home. Brett’s cousin, Amy Birge and childhood friend, Susan Douglas would like to thank the team on Prisma Richland’s Surgical Trauma ICU floor for their care of Brett during a very difficult time.
