James Bostwick Gaston, Jr.

James Bostwick Gaston, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10th in Venice, FL; where he had resided for the last 34 years. James ""Jim"" Gaston, son of James and Elizabeth Greneker Gaston, was born June 26, 1926 in Atlanta, GA. He was raised in Greenville, SC and graduated from Greenville High in 1943. During WWII, he served in the U. S. Navy aboard a sub-chaser in the Pacific. After the war, Jim returned to school; graduating from the school of journalism at the University of South Carolina in 1950. Jim married Mary Eunice Muse of Charlotte, NC on January 29, 1949. Jim and Mary lived in Augusta, GA where Jim worked with the U.S. Signal Corp and U.S. Military Police editing and writing training manuals. He was a member of First Presbyterian; where he served on the Board of Deacons. In 1982, after Jim retired, they moved to Venice, FL, enjoying many years of travel, sun and golf. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, a daughter Betty Snellings (Bill) of Sea Island, GA and a son George Gaston of Augusta, GA, two grandchildren, Will Snellings (Kacie) of New York City, Lilibet Kyte (Peter) of Chicago, IL, and three grandchildren, Ford, Sam and Henry Snellings. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty and Marie Gaston. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association P.O. A memorial service will be held at Sunday September 13th at 3 o'clock at Venice Presbyterian Church with burial later in Augusta, GA at Westover Cemetery.
