GASTON—Funeral services for James Wilson Jeffcoat, 91, of Gaston, will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Gaston, 121 Oakey Springs Drive, Gaston, SC 29053. Reverend Gary Farmer and Dr. Larry Harrison will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Jeffcoat will lie-in-state prior to the service. The family will greet friends following the burial in the church fellowship hall. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC 29169 will be assisting the family. Mr. Jeffcoat passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Born in Lexington County, he was a son of the late Stancil Jeffcoat and Sallie Lewis Jeffcoat. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during WWII as a Tech. Sgt. Mechanic and was in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Jeffcoat participated in the First Honor Flight in 2008. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Gaston; he served as head usher, was a member of the Sr. Men Sunday School Class and on the Building Committee. He also served as Sexton for the Church Cemetery. He was a self-employed contractor in the homebuilding industry. He enjoyed beekeeping and spending time with his family. Surviving are his daughter, Cheryl Koon (Ted); sons, Billy Jeffcoat (Diane), Randy Jeffcoat (Brenda), Stan Jeffcoat (Brenda) and Perry "Bucky" Jeffcoat (Allyson); along with a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the "Love of his Life", Herschel Hoffman Jeffcoat, his wife who passed 36 years ago; 3 sisters, 2 brothers and a grandson, Kevin Koon. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Buster McRae, his caregiver and friend for the past 3 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of one's choice.
