James Shipley
May 11th, 1956 - July 10th, 2017
James “Jim” Edward Shipley, age 61, of Arvada, CO passed away on July 10, 2017 after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born May 11, 1956 in Pensacola, Florida and was a son to William and Doris Shipley. Born the fifth of seven siblings, he grew up in San Diego, California. Following high school he enlisted and served 4 years in the US Marine Corps, proudly serving our country in Okinawa, Japan. Shortly afterwards, Jim met the love of his life, Debbie who would become his beautiful bride, and together, they lovingly and proudly raised two sons and one daughter. Jim was blessed with the gift of salesmanship which led him on many adventures. For over 25 years he owned an import/export business which led him to travelling across the United States; where he would frequently seek out fishing holes as a reprieve from working. In 2003 he decided it was time for a change, and moved the family to Arvada, Colorado. For the last 13 years he worked as a successful car salesman. Jim loved his family & enjoyed watching his children play sports. Over the years he was a volunteer coach for various soccer & hockey teams for the children. In recent years, he enjoyed technology including gaming and website design. He was also a sports fan and enjoyed attending and watching football and hockey games. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and was fondly referred to as “Papa Jimmy”. Jim was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by sons’ James(Morgan) Shipley of Huntington Beach, California, Justin (Denysse) Shipley of Arvada, Colorado, daughter Jeanna (Karly) Sissel of Denver Colorado; grandchildren, London Rose Seagrove, Koleson James Sissel & Liam James Shipley. He is also survived by his brothers’, William (Joann) Shipley of Colorado Springs, Colorado and John Shipley of San Diego, California; sisters’, Dorothy Lee, Anna Keene, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Pauline (Bob) Onate of San Diego, California, Lorrie (Dan) Beck of Henderson, Nevada. In addition he is survived by his in-laws Bob (Pat) King, brother-in- law Bobby (Angie) King of Fountain Valley, California and sister-in- laws’ Patty (Jeff) Boteler of Rushville Indiana, Kelly (Dennis) Bjerk of San Bernardino, California and over 95 nieces & nephews. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. Military service will follow promptly at 2:30 p.m., at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice in memory of James Shipley.
