James "Jay" Winfred Stelter

Jay Stelter, age 62, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, died tragically on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 as the result of a car accident. He was a painter who was working for Art C. Klein Construction Company. He was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.James Winfred Stelter was born on May 7, 1955 in Colorado Springs to James Fredrick and Winifred "Lavada" (Padgett) Stelter. He was a 1974 graduate of Coronado High School, and soon moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he became a professional painter. He married Prescilla Estella Sanchez in Colorado Springs and they raised their family there.Jay enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, and motorcycles. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and love of family. No one will forget the laughter and smile of this trusted friend and brother.He is survived by his mother, Lavada Stelter of Colorado Springs; his daughter, Lavada Stelter of Colorado Springs; his son, Dakota Stelter of Colorado Springs; his brother, Eric (Debbie) Stelter of Falcon, Colorado; his sisters, Brenda (Murllin) Howetter of Yoder, Colorado, Herlinda Stelter of Lexington, Kentucky, and Verlene (Robert) Peterson of Colorado Springs.
