Janeen H. Dyson

Harriett Janeen Heuser Harrington Dyson, passed away on January 12, 2024 at the age of 85, in Calhoun County, South Carolina. She was born in Covington, Kentucky and always considered Kentucky her home but growing up as a military child, she lived in other states including Michigan, California, Georgia and South Carolina until her parents decided Columbia, South Carolina was the place they would call home. She attended Columbia High School where she met her first husband and the father of her children. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Mabel Heuser, her husband, Clyde A. Dyson (who passed in 2001) and her son, Nicholas Bruce Harrington. She is also predeceased by her first husband, Harold L. Harrington. She is survived by her children, Pamela H. Germanos (George), Robin Slover (Larry) and her sister, Joey Moynihan, as well as her grandchildren, Diana DeBorde (Chris), Laurie Germanos Jensen (Greg), Evan Dekle (Billie) and five grand/great grandchildren, Madeline Sayegh, Charlotte Green, Kirby Green, Nicholas Ryan and Leo Sayegh. She also had 11 nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She is also survived by her beloved black tabby cat, Bee, who loves no one other than Janeen. Janeen was a member of Fort Creek Baptist Church in Harlem, Georgia. She loved to bowl with her parents and was on a bowling league at Fort Jackson, SC with them for many years. She loved to travel and was always ready for a trip or a car ride. All you had to do was say “you want to go” and she had her purse and her lipstick ready. Janeen never met a stranger and was famous for making friends everywhere she went. She loved visiting her sister and family in Florida as often as she could, taking the train and making new friends along the way. She loved to sing and dance and was known to dance to the grocery store music on occasion. She was particularly fond of Elvis Presley, who she saw in concert in Columbia in 1958 and any country music. And she never turned down a piece of candy or slice of cake and ALWAYS ate her dessert first! As she never met a baby or an animal she didn’t love (except for maybe Clifford, her granddaughter’s rabbit who she said hissed at her), we would ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to HALOS, at charlestonhalos.org, an organization which supports kinship care families or Rescueme.org, the rescue organization who found a loving family for her son’s dog, Jack, after Nick passed away. Or any animal rescue of your choice – she loved them all. You may also make a donation to Stand Up to Cancer, to assist in research to fight colon cancer, which took the life of her son, Nick, in 2019 at standuptocancer.org. Janeen lived her life in color and was always happy to just be herself. If you like, you can help the family celebrate by wearing your favorite colors to the services. The family wants this to be a celebration of her life – she would not want anyone to be sad. The family would also like to thank the nurses, CNA’s and staff at Calhoun Convalescent in St. Matthews, SC, who cared for her during the last few months of her life. There are too many to mention individually but the family appreciates the care and comfort they gave her in her last days. Services will be held at Thompson Funeral Home at 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Public visitation is at 11:00 prior to the service which begins at 12:00, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Serenity Gardens. A light lunch will be served at Thompson’s following the burial for family and friends.
