Janice Dorothy Mobley
December 8th, 1944 - January 21st, 2021
Jan Mobley of Eugene, Oregon passed away on January 21, 2021. A Kiwi through and through, she was born and raised in Dunedin, New Zealand, where she earned her teaching degree in elementary education. While on holiday in the US, Jan met her husband, Bob Mobley. They were married after a 9 week courtship (no shotgun necessary), because when you know, you know. Two years into their marriage, they were joined by a son, Brent, and two years after that, a daughter, Michelle. Jan and Bob turned their whirlwind romance into a marriage that lasted more than 52 years. Again, when you know, you know. Jan retired after teaching in the 4J school district for more than 20 years, where she enriched countless young lives with the extra care and attention she showed them. She was a member of the women’s auxiliary group, Beta Sigma Phi, donating countless hours to charity and doing her part to help make our community better. Jan had an amazing circle of friends, because once you met her you liked her. She maintained her childhood friendships, even though an ocean separated them. She had her sisters by choice, “the girls,” that were there for each other through thick and thin. There were neighbors, former colleagues, and friends that enriched her life. And then there was her sister, Pat. When they got together, their accents got thicker, they laughed at things often no one else got, and cherished each other as only sisters can. Jan enjoyed traveling with friends and family, soaking up the sun, playing games, making the best shortbread ever, cheering on the Ducks, and happy hour (just make sure it’s the good whiskey). In 1997 she became grandma to twin girls, Katie and Kasie, and you can bet there wasn’t a more proud grandma watching the twins go from sassy girls to amazing young women. Jan was sweet and kind, with a quick wit, and a generous heart. She will be missed by all that were lucky enough to have her in their lives. She is survived by her husband Bob, son and daughter-in-law Brent and Stephanie Mobley, daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Mike Swancutt, granddaughters Kasie and Katie Mobley, her sister Pat Heavilin, brother Lynn Graham, sister-in-law Joyce Mobley and so many friends and family, oh and don't forget Jake. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary. Please access the obituary and you are invited to sign the guestbook at musgroves.com.
