Jason Lynn Mitchell (aka “Tex” to college friends and “Mitch” to work friends) of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on July 12, 2024.

Jason is described by those who love him as a wonderful son, hero “little” brother, provider and protector of his family, best friend, warm, one who brings the laughter, calm, knowledgeable and passionate employee, guitar-strumming, pick-up man. As the strong silent type, when Jason piped up, you would want to be listening!

Jason was born June 18, 1977 in Plainview, TX to loving parents Dwayne and Geraldeen (Crump) Mitchell. He was raised in Plainview. He was the younger sibling to sister Stephanie of Amarillo, TX. They were lifelong supporters of one another in every way. Persevering through severe asthma and allergy challenges growing up, Jason spent his time riding dirt bikes, playing a bit of football, strumming guitar with his dad and uncles, loved basketball, sang in the high school choir (including performances all over the great state of Texas), and as a teen worked at the local airport where his dad had a lifelong career, as well as Jason earning miles toward his pilot license before even getting his driver’s license. Jason also spent much of his teen years working on local & family farms.

His love of skiing led him to choose Colorado for college, University of Southern Colorado at the time (now CSU-Pueblo). This is where he met Brooke; they married on August 13, 1999. They had many mutual friendships stemming from various sports, a group which certainly made their college experience memorable. Jason studied Electronics Engineering Technology, fostering camaraderie in the small crew of guys who studied EET together. Having that degree and experience helped him initially secure his career at Oracle, where he started in Support Sales, and through several promotions ended up as a Senior Director in Global Operations over an international team. More than just boss or co-worker, he was friend to many across the globe during an admirable 24-year career at Oracle.

Jason and Brooke moved to Colorado Springs about a year after they married; they joined then First Baptist Church of Black Forest (Cross Fellowship Church), and had Cole in 2004 and Tate in 2007. Jason had the privilege of baptizing each of the boys. He loved coaching Cole and Tate’s basketball teams from the YMCA to some club. Once the boys outgrew coach dad, the boys always knew dad would be in the stands, their loudest fan (maybe not the biggest fan of some referees) and advocate no matter what activity they chose. The boys followed in Jason’s footsteps, loving dirt biking as young guys. The multigenerational love of dirt biking also led to many adventures, especially in family-favorite, Platoro, Colorado, for biking, fishing, camping, and family time.

Few couples co-parent like Jason did with Brooke, always trying to balance schedules and support each other. Jason loved his family, was always a provider and protector. Over the years, Jason shared his gift of singing by surprising Brooke with a song at their wedding, singing at a couple family weddings and years in the church choir and solo. He was also an ordained deacon, supporting families within the church, and doing some teaching. Jason loved their homes in Black Forest most, with a little elbow room and space to enjoy those motorized toys. Jason and Brooke appreciated date weeks, especially golf and some travel, when the boys spent time in the summer at their grandparents.

He especially loved March madness, college basketball, rooting for the underdog, and just any close game. For the purpose of friendly competition, Jason enjoyed being a Texas Longhorns fan and having rivalries with buddies.

So many people are hurting from the tremendous hole of no longer having Jason in our lives, which is a testament to what a good man he was, and how loved he was. Hold the memories of Jason close and share a laugh whenever the opportunity arises.

Jason was preceded in death by grandparents Thomas & Mintie Crump and Waymon & Loretta Mitchell, infant sister Rebecca Lee Mitchell, aunt Chloe Mitchell, and uncle Rusty Baggett.

He is survived by his parents, Dwayne and Geraldeen Mitchell, his sister Stephanie, his wife, Brooke, their sons, Cole and Tate, and innumerable cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and in-laws who love him endlessly.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024, 1:30pm at Cross Fellowship Church, 10915 Black Forest Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80908, Pastor Matthew Morton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Springs Funeral Home. With reverence for the circumstance, please also feel free to honor Jason by wearing Cowboy boots.

Flowers through Carriage House Designs 719-822-1283.
