Jay D. Jost, son of Jake and Selma "Sally" (Hiebert) Jost was born on August 18, 1945 in Hillsboro, Kansas. He was the oldest of two children.Jay grew up in the Hillsboro community where he attended grade school and high school. During his school years Jay was involved in sports and considered a talented athlete by his classmates and friends. Jay excelled in multiple sports but primarily enjoyed playing football and basketball.Jay attended the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church with his family while growing up.He began working for his father's business,Wiens and Jost Phillip's 66 gas station on Main Street in Hillsboro. Jay married in 1965 and three children were born of that union: Jessie, James and Darrin.Jay then pursued his passion for ranching and cattle. He and his family moved to a farm south of Hillsboro and eventually to a ranch in the Flint Hills of Kansas. In 1977 Jay moved to Nebraska and married Lois McLeod in 1979. One child was born of that union, Kelli. While in Nebraska, Jay worked as a commodity broker and again invested in the livestock business. Lastly Jay moved to Colorado where he worked in real estate investments. He continued this work until his health began to fail and he retired. Jay remained in Colorado until the Lord called him home on July 31, 2019 at the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his daughters by his side and his brother and sister-in-law near.Jay was an avid sports fan. He was a true Denver Bronco and Colorado Rockies diehard. If not in the stands at the Mile-High Stadium or at Coors Field he could be found in front of the nearest TV watching the games. His love for sports did not end there, if neither of his teams were playing, he was still found watching whatever team WAS playing.
