Jeffery Carl Blackshire
November 16th, 1965 - June 13th, 2016
Jeffery Carl Blackshire, 50, of Columbia, South Carolina transitioned on June 13, 2016 at WJB Dorn VA Medical Center Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on November 16, 1965 in Dallas, Texas to the late Blanch and Theola Watson (Blackshire). Jeffery was a proud US Army veteran. He answered his county's call and served with honor during the Gulf War in Saudi Arabia. Jeffery continued his service even after his military career had ended by accepting a positon at Fort Jackson helping to construct the Chapel near Tank Hill. Most recently he was employed in the distribution of products at the Mars Pet Care in Columbia, SC. He was generous to a fault and never turned his back on those that needed his help. Jeffery was strong in his Christian faith and lived his life to match. When he was not taking care of his family, Jeffery enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and his Hyabusa. He and his wife liked to ride whenever they were able to spend time together. Jeffery also liked to fish with his friends. He enjoyed the peaceful time on the lake and outwitting the fish. Jeffery also liked to listen to his music. He enjoyed all kinds of music including the "Blues" and Motown. He most loved his family. Any time that they could be together was most precious to him. His wife Laverne and his children were his greatest joy. He will be missed by those that he loved, and especially those that loved him. Jeffery is survived by his wife of 28 years Laverne (Simmons) Blackshire of Columbia SC, a daughter Octavia L. Simmons and a son Jeffrey C. Blackshire, Jr. He is also survived by his brothers Gerald Blackshire and his wife (Corina) of Dallas TX and Joseph Blackshire and his wife Cassandra of Shreveport LA, his sisters in law Sharon Tate (John Tate) of Columbia SC, Robin Simmons (Don Curtis) of Columbia, and a brother in law, Robert Simmons (Toya McLeod) of Columbia SC. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins behind to cherish his memory. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 10 AM until 5 PM. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Larry Gathers officiating. We Entrusted Jeffery Blackshire's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
