Jennie R. Hayes, 97, of North Port, died on January 29, 2015. She was born in Detroit, MI on October 19, 1917 and came to North Port in 1973 from Warren, MI. Jennie was a devoted wife and mother, providing for her family in every way possible. At age 49, she returned to school and became an LPN. She worked at Harper Hospital in Detroit for 10 years until she and her husband, Alex, moved to Florida. Jennie was very supportive of Alex who served as a North Port Commissioner. She was also very generous with her time and talents at San Pedro Catholic Church for many years. She was a talented seamstress and painter, and her family and friends enjoyed her gifts and her company. She had a loving heart, and will be missed by all. Jennie is survived by her sons Robert (Nancy), and Alex (Donna); daughters Carol Thomas (Kenneth), Dolores Ganstine (Orv), and Laurene Nagaj (Joe), all of Michigan; 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex, in 2001. Visitation will be at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel, on Monday, February 2nd, from 6 - 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at San Pedro Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 3rd at 10 AM. Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery.
