Jerry Michael, 88, of Adamstown, MD died in Lynchburg, VA on May 10, 2018. He was born on May 5, 1930 in Washington, DC to Lawrence Michael and Grace Hutchison Michael. He lived in Arlington County, Virginia most of his life, although he managed dairy farms in Loudoun County and later in Frederick, MD. He was known for his gentle and gracious character. Jerry graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Randolph-Macon College in 1952. After briefly teaching and coaching in rural Virginia, he turned to dairy farming in the 1950’s, raising and breeding Holsteins for more than five decades. In recent years he turned his attention to Loudoun County history, compiling several books of post-Civil War life through the eyes of Leesburg newspapers. Jerry was predeceased by his first wife, Irene Pope Michael. He is survived by his wife Doe Michael, and his children, Sharon Michael Warren of Phoenix, Arizona, Daniel Lawrence Michael of Falls Church, and Rebecca Michael Shepard of Rustburg, Virginia, as well as ten grandchildren. A public interment will be held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia on June 23, 2018 at 11:00 followed by a memorial service to celebrate his legacy at Clarendon United Methodist Church in Arlington, Virginia at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts be directed to Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg, Virginia, which is dedicated to preserving local history and geneology.
