Jessie Garris Young WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Jessie Garris Young, 97, of West Columbia, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. J.O. Reed. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Young, widow of Lowell Ellsworth Young, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011. Born in Round O, (Colleton County), SC, she was the daughter of the late William Benjamin Garris and Minnie Anna Dodd Garris. She was a lifetime area resident and a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was a 1935 graduate of Winthrop University with a major in Mathematics. She taught briefly in Branchville, SC. Surviving is her son, Douglas L. Young of West Columbia. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Roland T. Young. Family and friends may sign online guest book at www.thompsonsfuneral.com
