Joann Stella Zalak and Carl Benedict Zalak Jr.

Joann Stella Zalak, 64, of Ocala passed away peacefully on August 27th, 2021 surrounded by family. Joann grew up on Long Island, New York as one of 6 children. She often joined her husband and son in business as an entrepreneur and active business partner. Joann loved God, was a children’s minister for years, and was an advocate for young women. Her greatest accomplishment was as a loving mother and grandmother. Joann will be dearly missed as a person, a mother, and a Mema. Joann was predeceased by her father, Edward Kowinsky, mother Della Lawrence, and brother Steven Kowinsky. Her husband Carl Zalak passed the day following. She is survived by her children Carl Zalak (Ann), Kimberly Zalak, Nicholas Zalak (Kelley), and Rebecca McCullough (Josh) as well as her 7 grandchildren, Carl, Zechariah, Elliana, Ariana Joanne, Bennett, Jude, and Eden. A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at First Baptist Church of Ocala at 1pm on Friday, September 17th. Carl loved God, his family, and was known widely for his generous nature. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than having family gathered. Carl will be dearly missed as a person, a father, and a Papa. Carl was predeceased by his wife, Joann Zalak, father, Carl Zalak, his mother, Patricia Zalak, his sisters Kimberly Zalak and Francis Zalak, and his brother, Anthony Zalak.
