JoAnna Lauren Gates, 30, left us Friday, May 31, 2013, at Providence Hospital, Forest Drive. Born Sunday, August 8, 1982, in Columbia, SC she was a daughter of Joseph C., Jr., and Faye P. Gates, of Columbia. She was a very caring person and extended a helping hand to many people. In addition to her parents, JoAnna is survived by her son, Kade (10); sister, Elena P. Gates (fiancé, Samuel Amanzo), of West Columbia; and a one of kind friend, Betty Jean. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastor Richard Ryals officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians, nurses and staff all of whom worked tirelessly to help save JoAnna.
