Joe Fred Morris, 88, of Columbia, South Carolina passed in his sleep early morning May 13th 2016. Joe enlisted into the US Navy at thirteen years old and was in the invasion of Normandy at fourteen. He enlisted into the Army at twenty-two, served in Korea, and retired from military service in 1963. He continued a career of public service in the Columbia Police Department and then the US Postal Service, retiring in 1992. He was a loving husband and father to his wife, Kara Morris; and three children, Deeanna Rowland, Joey Morris, and Michelle Goff. Joe Fred Morris is survived by two children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Though he will be sorely missed, we celebrate and honor a life of service to his country and a life of love to his friends and family. Joe Fred Morris loved and was loved, greatly. Memorial services will be held this Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roper St. Francis Foundation, Alzheimer's and Dementia Research, 125 Doughty Street, Suite 790, Charleston, SC 29403.
