Johannes "Jan" van Greunen

Jan van Greunen passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, December 14th, 2017, in Salinas, California, he was 72 years old. Jan was born in Bronkhorstspruit, South Africa, on October 28, 1945, to Johan Wilhelm van Greunen and Beatrice Elizabeth Fourie (van Greunen). Jan was a scholar and received a PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of California Berkeley, a Masters of Business Degree and Bachelor's Degree in Engineering at the University of Stellenbosch. He went on to become a Civil engineer and a protea farmer. Jan was very active and enjoyed golfing, tending to his protea farm, kayaking, swimming and spending the Christmas holidays with his family at his beach house in Boggomsbaai, South Africa. Jan is survived by his loving wife Kristi van Greunen, his daughters, Jana van Greunen and Elize van Greunen-Rooke, his sisters, Betine van Zyl Smit and Erika van Greunen, and his grandson, Ryan Johan Rooke. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 22nd, 2017, at 11am, at Mission Mortuary in Monterey, CA.
