Johannes "John" Christian Sorensen

John (Johannes) Christian Sorensen, born February 17, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Danish immigrant parents, returned to his heavenly home on March 8, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado after a short battle with Alzheimer's and complications associated with the disease.John resided most of his adult life in Colorado, moving here with his first wife in 1961. In his early years in Colorado, he was involved with Sankey Search & Rescue, Civil Air Patrol and Scouts. John was raised Danish Lutheran, and transitioned to the ELCA as an adult, and attended a number of Lutheran Churches between Denver, Evergreen, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo. He enjoyed participating in the church choir, both as the chorister and as a tenor, having sung in college as well. He attended North Park College in Chicago, and Dana College in Nebraska. His primary occupation was as a technical writer, employed many years by Martin Marietta (Lockheed Martin) until he retired in 1994. After that, he contracted his writing services to various other businesses around the country. In his free time, John loved to play golf and bowl, tinker with electronics, and travel through the Rocky Mountains taking pictures of scenery, trains and churches. John had a love of standard poodles, and had one by his side much of his life.John was preceded in death by his parents, Johannes "John" Marius Sorensen and Jensine Elisabeth Jensen Sorensen of Chicago, Illinois.He is survived by his brother, Jimmie Louis Sorensen and his wife, Esther; nieces, Nancy, Karen and Ruth; nephew, Mark; and their families; his daughters, Jule' Lise Naegle and Brittany Noelle Naujok; son-in-laws, Conrad and Jeff; four grandchildren, Daniel and Miles Naegle, and Jason and Reagan Naujok; and four great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, a donation in John's memory to Alzheimer's research would be greatly appreciated.Memorial Service, 2:00PM, Monday, March 13, 2017 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2505 North Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
