CROUCH, JOHN A., 87. Born 09/24/1929, died 03/14/2017. John Alexander Crouch was born on September 24th, 1929 in Evansville, Indiana, the only son of John and Ruth Thomas Crouch. He passed from this life on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Millbrook Assisted Living in Englewood, Colorado. John was 87 years old at the time of his death. John grew up in Evansville with his older sisters, Maryland and Alice Ann. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish. He graduated from the Benjamin Bosse High School in Evansville in 1946. He was conscripted into the U.S Army in 1948 and only served thirty days due to health reasons. When employed at the Faultless Caster Company he had his first experience with early computer systems. At the age of 22, he met Bonnie Sensmeier. They would marry on October 18, 1953, in Darmstadt, Indiana. To this union of over 58 years, they were blessed with their sons, John and David. John and Bonnie lived in Evansville during the first years of marriage, but due to John’s health, they moved to Denver in 1957. Continuing his career in computer data processing, he worked at Van Schaack & Co. After a few years, he transferred to the Colorado Highway Department and later to the Colorado Department of Health, where he retired in 1991. John loved the outdoors – camping, hiking, fishing, and looking for arrowheads. He loved to travel and visit historic locations. He had many hobbies – leathercraft, fly tying, square dancing and clock repair. Almost every weekday morning he exercised at the Arapahoe Community College, and later at the Buck Center. He volunteered at the Carson Nature Center, College View Community Center, Western Welcome Week, and at many other events around town. John was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church since 1995, transferring there from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denver. John served as an usher for many years at Ascension. He greeted the worshippers as they arrived for the 8:00 AM service just about every Sunday, giving them a bulletin, or a hug or a handshake. He let everyone know that they were welcome at Ascension. John was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie. He is survived by his sons, John and his wife Cynthia, Dave and his wife Sara-Lou; grandsons, Andrew & Albert; granddaughters, Lily & Arianna. Services are to be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1701 W. Caley Ave, Littleton, CO 80120, on 03/25/17, at 11 AM. Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society, Ascension Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice.
