John Richard Garcia
September 20th, 1952 - August 7th, 2016
John Richard Garcia (Rick) passed away after a lengthy illness on August 7, 2016. He was born in London, England, on September 20,1952, to Lieutenant Colonel (USAF Ret) Frank J. Garcia of Marina and was preceded in death by his mother, Ofelia Garcia. He is survived by the greatest joy of his life, Carlos Kellen Bryant Garcia of Lake Oswego, OR, sisters Diana Rogers (Ron), Terry Rowe (Gary), brother, Frank J. Garcia Jr. (Deborah) of Salinas and several nieces and nephews who love him dearly. John is a graduate of Palma High School Class of 1970. He furthered his education by attending Hartnell College, University of California, Berkeley and then graduated with double majors from the University of California, Santa Cruz. His professional life led to successful careers in both investment banking and insurance. His love of travel brought him to many destinations, including Europe, Hawaii and Greece. As an avid sports enthusiast, Rick cherished moments with lifelong friends playing golf and racquetball and watching his beloved Cal Bears, Oakland Raiders, LA Dodgers and LA Lakers. However, his greatest love and achievement was always his son "Carlito". Rick's favorite moments were spent coaching his son's 1st grade baseball team, trips to the zoo, museum and just spending time together. Our tears will eventually stop, but he has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. A rosary will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 7:00 pm, Mission Mortuary, Monterey, CA. A funeral mass will be held on August 11, 2016, 11:00 am at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Marina, CA with a reception following in the church hall.
