John P. Gilchrist, 75, of Nokomis, FL passed away unexpectedly April 23, 2014. John a.k.a. Jack was born March 14, 1939 in Norwalk, CT to the late Lillian (Singlewald) and John Gilchrist. Growing up he enjoyed many sports.Jack graduated from Norwalk High School. He went on to graduate from Central Connecticut State University and completed advanced degrees at Fairfield University. Jack worked as a school educator and Prinicpal for 35+ years in the Stamford school district. Over the years, he enjoyed white water rafting, camping and traveling with his family, and golfing. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan. Go Giants! Jack and Cindy retired to SouthWest Florida about 10 years ago from CT and have been enjoying retired life. They traveled with friends to Vegas and on cruises, and enjoyed vacations with their children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Cindy of 52 years; children Keith (Michele) and Heather (Bill Herman); grandchildren Tai, Cody, and Jack Herman and Madison and Reghan Gilchrist; Jack is also survived by his brother Robert Gilchrist (Jane) and Carole Gilchrist (Drew Hamilton). As well as brother in law Richard Jones (Jane) and many nieces, nephews and good friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday April 26th from 3-5.
