John Lewis Maitland, age 83, of North Port and formerly of Lanham, MD and Seaford, DE; died on February 2, 2006. He was born on June 25, 1922 in Bowling Green, KY. He was a manager of Quality Adjuster for the U.S. Naval Department in Washington,D.C. until his retirement . He was a member of the Elks, Englewood, FL; Moose Lodge # 1456, Glen Burnie, MD; American Legion # 6, Seaford, DE; and VFW # 8203. He was a U.S Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife Ann Maitland ( nee Norton), of North Port, FL, they were married for 58 years; children, Joanne Gum of Delmar, DE; Sally Barcus of Greenbelt, MD; Gail Brown of Ryegate, VT and John S. Maitland of Columbia, SC; sister, Mary Lauzze of Myrtle Beach, SC; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Farley Funeral Home North Port Chapel from 3 pm to5pm with an Elks service at 4pm. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 6 at 11 am at the Living Waters Lutheran Church. Interment to follow at Venice Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Living Waters Lutheran Church, 12475 Chancellor Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33953 or to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238.
