John Arne Manisto, 91 of Cloquet died Saturday, August 14, 2021 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born on June 24, 1930 in Esko to Hilda E. and Arne F. Manisto. On November 21, 1953 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Rowe in Saginaw. He and Betty were long-time members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. John served in the Air Force from January 8, 1951 to October 23, 1953. He was a long-time member of the American Legion. John graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1957 with an advanced degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked as the manager of Quality Control at the Wood Conversion, Conwed, and USG in Cloquet. He retired in 1992. John enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and deer hunting. Time with family was very important to him. John was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and brother, Jim. He is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Bob) Collard of Duluth, Delayne "DeeDee" (Glen) Gist of Esko and Michelle (Jason) Cordle of Floodwood; grandchildren, Neko (Deb) Gerlach, Adam Gerlach, Lindsay (Cody) Bruce, Christopher "Tuffer" (Tracy) Gist, Troy (Jessica) Gist, Carrie (Keith) Erickson, Michael (Stacey) Cordle, Joshua (Christine) Cordle, Kearsty (Brendon) Menze, and Alecia (John Gruna) Cordle; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray of Moose Lake, Art (Gail) of Cloquet, Jack (Debbie) of Esko; and many nieces and nephews. His smiling face and easy-going nature will be sadly missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank Inter-Faith Care Center for their kindness and compassion. Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2021 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service, Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 615 12th Street, Cloquet. Masks will be required. Military Honors will be accorded by the Cloquet combined Honor Guard. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the fellowship hall at the church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet.
