John McLain
November 18th, 1925 - January 21st, 2014
Love leaves behind more than death can take away. John McLain passed away with his family by his side at Allison Care Center on January 21, 2014 at 8:16 p.m. John was born in Denver, Colorado on November 18, 1925 to Alma Mariacher and Charles McLain. He lived in Denver and graduated from North High School. John married Ruth Greene on June 7, 1948 and they raised three children together. They loved to dance and belonged to dance clubs & traveled to various dance camps. John honorably served his country with the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. After his service in the Navy, he worked for over 30 years at the Denver Post. In September of 1998 John moved to Grand Junction, Colorado and then moved back to the front range to Allison Care Center in Lakewood, Colorado in July 2013. John always had a love of adventure that he passed on to his children. He would gather the family to go build dams in the rivers of the mountains. There were weekends spent sledding, inner tubing, ice skating, snow skiing, and hot air ballooning. He was a pioneer of hot air ballooning and an outstanding pilot. He took raft trips down the Grand Canyon with family and friends. He purchased season tickets for the Denver Bronco games in 1969 with his wife and attended their games for many years. Survivors include his son Russ McLain & his wife Shirley of Englewood, CO, daughter Lorrie McLain of Arvada, CO, daughter-in-law Jackie Labash McLain Thompson of Parker, CO, sister Betty Moyle of Denver, CO, granddaughter Molly Haberberger & her husband Leif of Denver, CO, granddaughter Mindy Regner & her husband Garrett of Silverthorne, CO. John is further survived by a great grandson Koen Haberberger of Denver, CO. John was preceded in death by his ex-wife Ruth McLain, son Scott McLain, his brother Chuck McLain, and his parents Alma and Charles McLain. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to Fisher House (www.fisherhouse.org)
