John William Popp

A funeral mass for John William Popp will be held at 10am December 1st at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Entombment (family only) will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Thursday, November 30th at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC. Mr. Popp died on November 28th. Born in Elmhurst, Illinois in 1922, his career as a CPA with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG) led him from Columbus Ohio, to Chicago, Illinois, and West Hartford CT. He and his wife moved to Columbia 30 years ago to be near four of their grandchildren and his oldest son. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Anna Mae Popp in 2001 and his wife of 11 years, Jean McKinley Popp in 2016. Surviving are children, John W. Popp Jr. (Carol), Janis Popp Moroni (James), Jean Popp Collins (Greg), James Robert Popp (Sheila); grandchildren, John W. Popp III (Trey), Michael Adam Popp, Jason Daniel Popp, Ryan David Popp, Gregory Scott Collins, Jr., Jeffrey Hayes Collins, Julie Elizabeth Collins, Jake Edwin Ryder, Jordan James Popp, Riley William Popp, Anna Eden Popp; and great grandchildren, Noah Wesley Popp, Miles Alexander Popp, Olivia Savannah Popp, Hunter Daniel Popp, William Johnston Popp, Winn Caroline Popp and Gregory Scott Collins III (Trace). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina Philharmonic, 500 Taylor Street, Suite 300, Columbia, SC 29201, St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Rd, Columbia, SC 29223 or the charity of one's choice.

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years.
