John Sheldon

John Raymond Sheldon passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2018 with family by his side. Born in Newport, Rhode Island on January 28. 1950, he moved many times with family to places including: Texas, California, and Colorado. He joined the Marines in 1968 with an honorable discharge in 1969. Married to Benita (Barnes) from 1971-1986 he became father to three children and began his career with the US Postal Service. In 1987, he began development of the Auto/Cad – PostalCad Project, which was installed nationally until 1998. Married to Darlene (Currie) from 1991 – 2002, he entered the Western Area with the USPS in Denver, Colorado. He retired from his Management career with USPS in 2005 to enjoy full time his favorite past-time of many years: drag racing. Winning trophies, traveling to different race tracks and investing time in refurbishing cars was his passion. He was able to share this passion with many, including his current wife since 2008, Cindy (Konold; nee Conrad). Moving to Hawai’i with Cindy and her daughter, Amelia in 2008 became a new ‘hobby’ where they enjoyed whale-watching, snorkeling, fresh fish and much Aloha. After helping his mom during the last two years of her life in Las Vegas, Nevada, they returned to Colorado Springs in 2014. Loving husband, father and friend, he may be best known for his generosity and kindness towards others, out-side-of-the-box sense of humor and his many “Sheldonisms” (cliche’s he had coined for certain situations) that are used far outside his immediate family. He is preceded in death by his brothers , Ben Lockhart and Steve Sheldon, his sister, Susan Sheldon, his mother, Evelyn Von Poederoyen, his aunt, Shirley Davis, and cousin, David Vanni. He is survived by his wife, Cindy and her children Raymond Konold (Victoria), James Konold (Gillian Walsh) and Amelia Konold, his children Joel Sheldon, Travis Sheldon (Casey) and Brynn Lampman (Les), and his three granddaughters, Kieryth Lee, Annika Rae and Bailey Korinne Lampman.
