John W Shisler Jr, 69, of Englewood, Colorado passed away in his home on February 5th, 2019. John was born on October 28, 1949, to John W Sr & Marjorie (Miller) Shisler in Cleveland Ohio, the third of five children. John graduated from Minerva High School in Ohio and entered the Air Force. While recovering from Hodgkin’s Disease, he met his wife, Lois. Once he was medically discharged, they moved to Englewood, Colorado and got married. He enrolled and graduated from Colorado University-Denver with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and took a job at the Federal Bureau of Reclamation and worked there, as a Mechanical Engineer, for 37 years. Along the way, they had 2 children, Colin & Lany. John had a spirit about him that was warm and inviting. His passion for life was seen through his love for his family, his open invitation to lend a helping hand, and his many adventures. He coached soccer when Colin and Lany were young and his focus on mentoring and teaching through patience allowed him to develop close relationships with many of his players. In all his adventures, John was joined by the ones he loved and he was happiest when he was with his family and friends. He maintained close relationships with his spouse, siblings, children, and their spouses, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. People loved talking to John; he always had a smile on his face and a willingness to talk in his heart. He was a great listener and a great talker at the same time. John always knew how to make the most of the situation. He found humor in awkward situations that lightened the mood but his humor never detracted from the moment. He understood how to meet people where they were and support their journey. John offered many souls an open heart and a helping hand. For such an unassuming man, John was a man of many adventures. He was always coaching soccer, tinkering & fixing anything mechanical, 4-wheeling in the mud and rocks, biking over mountains, playing softball, traveling the world, and too many more adventures to count. John was a constant engineer who never found an item he couldn’t fix. He loved working on cars and restoring his fleet, especially his CJ-3B His ashes will be buried in a small private ceremony at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Friday, March 8th. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 9th at 10:00 am at Jefferson County Open School. John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lois; two children and their spouses Colin & Sara Shisler of Littleton, CO; Lany & Brett Sandford of Ft Collins, CO; foster daughter and her family Laurie, Chuck & Aiden Warmerdam; Three grandchildren, Oliver, Simon & Amrut Shisler; Sister Lany Ashton; Sister Amy & Tom Vandegrift; Brother Dale Shisler; and Sister Penny & Dave Snelling, and many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and friends.
