Jon M. Owings

Jon Owings, aka ‘Jon Boy’, 49, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Jon was a graduate of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia and a self-taught landscaper. Jon was the owner of Wormwood Landscaping in Columbia. He took excellent care of his clients and often told funny stories at no additional charge. Jon was known for his huge personality, billowing laugh, hilarious stories, and for being a gentle, gruff giant. He loved his wife and 2 daughters like no other – they were his world. Jon also loved collecting everything from cool rocks, shells, and sharks' teeth to his prized Matchbox cars. His most recently found treasure – and most objectionable by his wife – was the jawbone of a wild hog! Jon never met a stranger and was quick to make friends and leave a lasting impression on all who were lucky enough to meet him. Jon is survived by his lovely wife Amy and his two amazing daughters, Madison and Taylor; his sister, Jean, her husband (Brett) and their two daughters of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his sister-in-law, Jen, her husband Rawdon Naumann and their two boys; his sister-in-law, Melanie; and his father, Ralph Owings of Columbia, South Carolina. He was predeceased by his mother, Barbara Owings. A visitation is planned for Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Thompson Funeral Home from 4 – 7 PM.
