Monterey - Jose M. Minjares, Jr., a retired teacher, died at home a few days before his 82nd birthday. His wife and daughter were by his side when he went to be with the Lord. He was born in El Paso, Texas on June 16, 1932. He served in the Army in 1952 as a surveyor for the 7th Div. Artillery HQ stationed in Korea, Formosa and Japan. Jose was a graduate of Bowie High School, Texas Western College of Mines, and the University of Texas in El Paso. He enjoyed a long career in teaching and administration in Texas and California. He was a 32nd degree Mason, 2004 president of the Monterey County Asiya Shrine Club and served as Exalted Ruler in 1987 of the Monterey Elks. He also served two terms as president of the El Paso Council of Teacher of Mathematics. Jose enjoyed working in his garden and spending time with his grandson, Anthony. Jose is survived by his wife, Irene and daughter, Zelma (Tony) and grandson, Anthony of Santa Clarita, CA; sisters, Evangelina of Lodi, CA, Hilda Brotherman (Don) of Dallas, Texas, Beatriz and Marina (Chuy) Lopez of El Paso, Texas and numerous nephews and nieces.
