Joseph Paul Schnurr
September 7th, 1932 - July 29th, 2018
Joseph Paul Schnurr, 85, a longtime resident of Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018. He was a lovingly cared for at the Avante Rehabilitation Center after suffering a stroke in February. Born on September 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bessie Schnurr. After graduation from Central Catholic High School, he served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Joe then began his career as a professional photographer with Associated Commercial Photography in Fort Wayne. He married the love of his life, Mary Geisman, who preceded him in death two years ago. Joe and Mary loved to travel and made many wonderful friends in The Villages of Florida. Joe’s interests included gardening, fishing, bird watching, golfing and he continued with his photography as a hobby. He and Mary were devoted members of Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages. Joe was a loving husband, beloved brother and uncle, and a friend to many. Joe is survived by his sister, Rita Ruckel of Fort Wayne, IN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, and his three sisters: Catherine McDonald, Dorine Fabian and Mary Lesinski. The family wishes to express their gratitude to his faithful neighbors and friends, Don & Mary Doggett and Lon & Jan Lindsey. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 10:30AM at Hope Lutheran Church, 250 Avenida Los Angelos, The Villages, FL. Following the service, there will be a luncheon and gathering for family and friends at the Church. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, with Military Honors. A private family gathering will be held at a later date in Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials in Joe’s honor are to Wildwood Food Pantry, 300 Mason Street, Wildwood, FL 34785 or St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen, 1101 Lafayette Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802.
