LEXINGTON—Joyce Thigpen Sharpe, 82, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at home. The visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014. The funeral service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Hwy., Cayce, SC 29033, at 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014. The service will be conducted by Reverend Steve Kittrell, Laurel Baptist Church and assisted by Ms. Princetta Dennis, Spiritual Care Coordinator at Hospice Advantage with interment at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Joyce was a loving and caring wife, Mother, Granmama, sister and friend. She enjoyed cooking for her family especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved watching each step as her grandchildren grew from babies to manhood and womanhood. They were her heart. She loved people, always ready to take the next step to help anyone. Prior to his death, she was a loving and devoted caregiver to her precious husband. She was a friend to everyone. She graduated from Dentsville High School in 1949. She worked in Administrative positions throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida until she retired from DHEC in 2007. Joyce is survived by her four precious daughters, Vickie Hickman (Vic), Terri Barton (Ed), Tami Galloway (Harold), Kelley Ard and a son, Kenneth Roberts (Robyn) his son, Cory; 6 beautiful grandchildren, Dylan, Hannah and Ivey Barton, Caroline Hickman, Gabriel and Savanna Galloway; sisters, Doris Stevens (Joe), Kay Alford; sisters-in-law, Mary Thigpen, Esther Thigpen; brother-in-law, Jay Sharpe (Gloria); sisters-in-law, Merle Butler, Kathryn Gunter, Evelyn Chavis (Harold) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Rev. Jacob O'Neil Sharpe, parents, Dewitt & Lethia Thigpen, Sr. and brothers, Dewitt Thigpen, Jr. and Bob Thigpen. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Vic Hickman, Ed Barton, Harold Galloway; grandsons, Dylan Barton and Gabriel Galloway; and nephew Robin Alford. The daughters would like to thank all of our family and friends who supported us and to extend a special thank you to Daybreak Adult Care Services (Kim Jackson, Dena Finch, Rosa Lee Wilmoth) and Hospice Advantage (Nellie, Princetta and Lisa).
