COLUMBIA: Julia Phillips Gardner, 64, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Born in Sumter, South Carolina, on February 25, 1949, she was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Phillips and the late William Francis Phillips. She graduated from Columbia High School and earned a Masters of Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Carolina. She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church where she was active in the Order of the Daughters of the King. She was a member of various professional organizations. Mrs. Gardner is survived by her husband, John Graham Gardner Jr.; children, David Michael Berry (Buffy), Renee Rabell Lott (Danny), Allyson Suzanne Gardner, Carolyn Gardner Shultz (Robert), John Graham Gardner, III (Kim); sisters, Nancy Phillips Hughes (Terry), Frances Phillips Hoffman (David); seven grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Monday, October 14, at 1:00 pm. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 170 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
