June Bernice Bong
February 25th, 1930 - January 17th, 2008
June Bernice Bong, 77 of Carlton passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008 in the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth. She was born on February 25, 1930 in Duluth to Roy and Gladys Saxin. Bernice graduated from Hermantown High School in 1948, She married Russell Bong on August 6, 1950. Bernice was a long time resident of Carlton and was a stay at home mom caring for her five children. She enjoyed camping, traveling, visiting, fishing, playing cards, going to social events, and spending quality time with family and friends. Bernice was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Johnson. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 58 years, Russell; her five children, Jim (Kathy) of Alborn, Janet Grover of Carlton, Bruce of Barnum, Bob of Carlton, and Cindy VanHoever of Cloquet; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; one sister, Margie Anderson of Oregon; one brother, Bob (Paula) Saxin of Duluth; one brother-in-law, Donald Johnson of Duluth; and many other family members and friends. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Maddy, the staff at the FMC Spirit Valley Dialysis Center, the staff at the Solvay Hospice House, and all others who cared for her. Memorial Services were held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship followed in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
