Karen Rae Vasseur
October 19th, 1938 - September 27th, 2020
Obituary Karen Rae Vasseur (ne Kowaluk), 81, of Brighton, Colorado, passed away on 09/27/2020. Although she did not have COVID-19, she succumbed to a side effect from COVID. Karen was in a nursing home due to Dementia. Even though she did not always know our names, she always recognized her people. Due to the shutdown, in-person visits were not allowed, or any real visiting. We tried zoom calls however with her limited technical ability and her mental state she didnt or couldnt engage. She died from failure to thrive. She needed contact with us in real life not virtually, so since she no longer had her people she just gave up living. Karen was born to parents Lena Elizabeth Kowaluk (ne Haskins) and William Kowaluk, on 10/19/1938 in Alma, Colorado. She was number 9 of 10 children. She graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1956 and joined the U.S. Womens Army Corp in 1957. She proudly served her country while stationed overseas during the Vietnam Era. Karen met James Lee Vasseur in 1964. They were married on April 19, 1965 in Denver, Colorado. Together they raised 2 children: Karry LaRaye Raney and Tracy Lea Vasseur. Karen is survived by Daughter, Karry Raney (William); Daughter, Tracy Vasseur; Grandchildren, Jeremy Raney (Teresa), Aaron Raney (Ashley), Emili Vasseur (Billee), Tayleur Raney, Molly Myhre, Andrew Myhre, Amanda Myhre and her dear littlest sister Gail Hudson. Additionally survived by her 11 Great Grandchildren, Jazmine Raney, Jeremy Justus Raney, Kawika Martinez, Jaylia Raney, Ashton Vasseur, Jaxson Raney-Guerrero, Jessa Raney, Joleigha Jenkins, Janae Raney, Abel Jenkins, Baylee Lee.
