Memorial

Kathleen H. Grogan (Kay), widow of Dr. John P. Grogan (1932-1985), daughter of Dr. James A. Hogan and Catherine Benson Hogan, passed away on February 3, after a brief illness. Born in Albany NY, On September 30, 1934, she was a graduate of the Vincentian Institute (‘51), The College of St. Rose (‘56), and Yale School of Nursing (‘57). In recent years she split her time between Taconic Lake in Grafton, NY and Venice, Florida. A cultured woman of indomitable will, faith and strength, she loved great books, music and art. She celebrated life and abhorred all forms of violence and assaults on human dignity. Kay survived two quadruple bypass operations and breast cancer and she lived and travelled independently until her death. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to her children, Kathleen M. Grogan of Long Beach, NY, Anne M. Grogan of Truckee, CA, John P. Grogan (Rose Reifsnyder) of Minneapolis, MN, and Joseph J. Grogan (Alexandra) of Washington, DC. She is also survived by brother Dr. Michael Hogan (Martha) of Morgantown, WV, sisters Anne Hogan of Tampa, Florida and Mary Brown (Page) of Venice, Florida. Predeceased siblings include brother Dr. James A. Hogan, Robert Hogan, and sister Eileen Hogan. Kay found comfort and fortitude in her Catholic faith - which she practiced daily — and she discovered boundless joy, wonder and laughter in the company of her grandchildren, Cayman Levonian of Bozeman, MT, Zane Levonian of Truckee, California and Tecumseh and Francesca Grogan of Washington, DC. Kay will be missed. Kay always looked fondly upon her Albany memories with family and friends - living and departed — who touched her life as a child, young woman and mother. In keeping with her wishes, a private Mass and ceremony will be held in Venice, Florida. Those wishing to make a donation are encouraged to consider giving to Father Peter Young Foundation in Albany, NY or the American Heart Association. Farley Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements. Service Information
