July 28th, 1930 - March 17th, 2019
Kathleen Carol Rooney (nee Borden) age 88 of Afton, MN passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 17, 2019, after a lengthy struggle with Dementia related causes. Preceded in death by husband John (Bud) Rooney; infant son Joseph Timothy; parents Joseph & Marie Borden; sisters Helen Hudson (Bob), Patricia Dillon (Dick); brothers, Dick Borden (Gloria), Jack & Joe Borden; brother in-law, Arnold Lindberg. Survived by sister Mary Anne Lindberg; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann O’Rourke Borden & Mary Helen Rooney Hormachea; children Mike, Megan, John (Bridget), Dan (Lisa Guyer-Rooney), Maureen (Jim) Detviler, Colleen (Kevin) Powers, and Kitty (Scott) Rogers; grandchildren: Nicholas Rooney, Shannon (Tony) Caswell, Katie (Will) Pilkington, Colin (Nichole) Peltier, Colleen (Charlie) & Conor (Mackenzie) Rooney, Kelsey Rogers, Matthew (Cassie) & Emily Heslin, Kathryn & Thomas Rooney, Alison & Madison Detviler; great grandchildren Declan & Kellen; Ellie, Isla, & Charlotte; Kailyn & Adelyn, plus many nieces, nephews and friends. Beloved daughter, sister, spouse, mother, grandmother & teacher. Kathy attended St. Mark's Catholic School, St. Joseph's Academy & the College of St. Catherine. Kathy taught at Mendota Elementary and was well traveled in her lifetime. Kathy and Bud were passionate supporters of the city of St. Paul, including the Winter Carnival and St. Joseph's Hospital. Special thanks to the Staff at Prelude Homes of Woodbury, Afton Senior Care, Blue Stone Services and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent directly either to charity of choice or the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Mayo Clinics or MN Alzheimer's Association. Visitation on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, with a prayer service at 5:30PM and also one hour prior to Mass at church. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am Monday, April 1st at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1405 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota. Burial to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent directly either to charity of choice or the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Mayo Clinics or MN Alzheimer's Association.
