Kayo Matsumoto Eubanks passed away in her home on September 11, 2022. She was a remarkable woman, described as generous, wise, witty and kind by those who knew her. Born in Kyoto, Japan on December 3, 1929, Kayo began studying English early on and began her journey to the United States, arriving in Virginia at the age of 23. She taught kindergarten and loved her “children”. She moved to the Monterey Peninsula around 1970 and in1982 married US Army Major Frank Eubanks, whom she lovingly cared for during his later years. Kayo worked at Robert Talbott in Monterey and was acknowledged as top tailor by him. Her generous, giving nature also made her a natural at volunteer organizations, Kiwanis of Seaside being one. Everyone who knew Kayo was touched by her kindness, generosity and wisdom. She now lays to rest with her late husband, Frank at Mission Mortuary’s Military Wall of Honor, underneath the eucalyptus trees. Kayo is survived by her sister Kotoe Isobe of Kyoto, Japan and four stepsons – Stanley Eubanks, Frank Eubanks, Jr., Dwayne Eubanks, Kevin Eubanks and their families. Kotoe Isobe and Dwayne Eubanks express their appreciation to Kayo’s neighbors Mr. & Mrs. Virgil Green and Mr. & Mrs. John Brown of Seaside; and to Dr. Jay Edmonds, Kayo’s doctor for many years, their sincerest gratitude. Lastly, Kotoe wishes everyone to know, “Kayo really loved America”

Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946 at a location on Munras Avenue in Monterey and moved to our current location on Camino El Estero in 1952. While times certainly have changed, Mission Mortuary has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our families....
