Kelly J McCleerey, 81, of Venice, Florida, passed away of Pancreatic Cancer on Oct. 7th, 2021. Born in Sloan Iowa and raised in Des Moines, he served from 1958 to 1962 in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii. In 1962, he married Nanette Pomeroy and began his college education. He graduated from Drake University in 1971 and moved to Michigan with Ford Motor Co. In 1981, Ford moved Kelly's family to Tokyo, Japan to begin a nineteen-year assignment in Asia: Japan, Korean & Thailand. Kelly retired from Ford in 1998. After spending a few years in Brevard, North Carolina and Parker, Colorado he and Nan settled in Venice, Florida. Throughout retirement, Kelly continued to enjoy hunting, biking, and kayaking. Kelly leaves behind his wife, Nan and daughters Stacey Kelso and Erin Clinton, both of Florida, son, Kent McCleerey of Virginia. and three grandchildren: AJ Kelso and Kiernan and Giselle McCleerey. Kelly was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. In November the family will gather for a small memorial at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
