Larry W. CheekJune 20, 1937 - February 25, 2011Larry W. Cheek, age 73, was born June 20, 1937 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Bonnie Cheek and Mary (Fellows) Cheek. He passed away February 25, 2011 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Larry was born in his grandmother's house and was the second of three brothers and the older brother to five sisters.Larry joined the Army in 1959 and served for nearly 30 years until retiring in 1988. During the course of his service he was posted at Vicenza, Italy; Fort Carson, Colorado; Aberdeen, Maryland; Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California; Kinshasa, Zaire; Neu Ulm, Germany; Killeen, Texas; Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas and Korea. He toured Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Sinai Peninsula and Israel. He retired with the rank of Sergeant Major.Larry was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves fan. He was very meticulous and loved to build wooden model ships, enjoyed cross stitching, and loved to solve cross word puzzles. He also loved to read.Larry was a member of the Church for All Nations and served faithfully.He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rosanna Cheek; daughters, Patricia Cheek and Teresa E. Cheek; son, Larry Paul Cheek; grandson, Timothy A.
