Larry Lee Smith, 56, passed away in Phoenix, AZ, on May 14th, 2004, He was born in North Platte, NE, on June 7th, 1947, He moved with his family to Mesa in Jan, 1961, Larry attended Mesa High School, graduating in 1965, After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. He attended Glendale Community College and Maricopa Tech, earning degrees at both. Larry worked at both Air Cargo and Motorola among other companies. Preceding him in death were grandparents Claude E. & Clara Ostrand Smith and William & Eilene Herron Gartrell of Nebraska. Larry is survived by parents Claude L. and Wilma Eilene Gartrell Smith, brother Rick O. Smith Jill Forties, sister JoAnn Raupp Harvey Raupp, sons Troy M, Smith Teresa Bishop of Phoenix, Tim S, Smith and daughter Jennifer S, Caines Andrew Caines of Snowflake, stepchildren Amanda Martinez Omar Martinez and Vanessa Sorabella Louis Sorabella of Mesa, and Hank Powers of Michigan, Grandchildren Ashley Ashlynn Smith, Jonathan Pearl, Andrea, Cody, & Neal Caines, Mariah, Gabriel, James & Victoria Sorabella, AnaLisa & Alecia Martinez, niece Tauni Raupp, and cousin Suzan Olson Kuramata Tom Kuramata of Mesa. His mantra was family, fishing, and steak sandwiches. He always worked harder then he had to. A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 20, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the 1st United Methodist Church, 15 E. 1st Ave in Mesa. Meldrum Mortuary handled the arrangements. www.meldrummortuary.com
