Lee M. “Tex” Dowlen, 81, of Venice, passed away on January 11, 2007. He was born on January 21, 1925 in Panhandle, TX and raised on a horse ranch in Amarillo. A long time resident of Pittsfield, MA, he came to live in Venice in 1972. He was self-employed as a wallpaper-hanger and painter prior to retiring 20 years ago. He had been a baseball and football Little League coach in Lanesboro, MA, was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Pittsfield, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Covenant Life Presbyterian Church in Sarasota. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Leonore; son David Dowlen of Bennington, VT; daughter Deborah Obeid and her husband Rick of Sarasota; granddaughter Alyssa Obeid of Sarasota; half-sister Mary Sloan of Texarkana, TX; he was preceded in death by two brothers, Landon Dowlen and Larry Morton. A memorial service will be held at the Covenant Life Presbyterian Church on January 21st at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Covenant Life Presbyterian Church, 8490 McIntosh Rd. Sarasota FL 34238.
