Leland "Bud" Boyd Roberts
March 8th, 1932 - February 14th, 2016
Leland "Bud" Boyd Roberts, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away February 14, 2016 while in Pikes Peak Hospice unit at Penrose Hospital. Bud was born in Topeka, Kansas to Clarence and Hazel Roberts, along with his deceased brother, Ronald. He attended Topeka High School and three-years at Washburn University, joining Kappa Sigma Fraternity before his Navy reserve unit was activated. Bud spent two years in Sasebo, Japan during the Korean War. After returning in 1954, he and Marilyn Lee Towler were married. They moved to Manhattan, Kansas where he attended Kansas State University, graduating from the school of Architecture with honors in 1957. After moving to Colorado Springs he worked for Carlisle Guy Architectural Firm; was a Branch Manager of Gerald H. Phipps Contractors until partnering with Michael Collins in 1970. Later in 1982, he and Randy Thorne formed a partnership, Roberts Thorne Architects, now known as RTA. Bud was a member of the American Institute of Architects, and was President of the Southern Chapter of AIA. A few of his combined projects included, the current Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame; American Numismatic Association; Western National Bank; numerous Broadmoor Hotel projects; the addition to First Presbyterian Church; along with many residences. Bud loved sports, tennis; golf; sailing; and fly fishing, especially with his family and close friends. Bud is survived by his wife, Marilyn Roberts, of 61 years; three sons, Gil, John (Kelly), and David Roberts; along with grandchildren, Pearson, Logan, Dylan, Daphne, Noah and Isabella, all whom were dearly loved.Celebration of Life Service, 12:00PM, Friday, March 4, 2016, Chapel of our Saviour, 8 Fourth Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906 .
