Leo Kondra
November 5th, 1918 - March 13th, 2017
Leo Kondra passed away peacefully on March 13, 2017 at the age of 98. He had served in the Army Air Corp as a pilot, achieving the rank of Second Lieutenant during WW II. He then went on to the US Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas and later transferred to Northern N.Y. from there he went into the U.S. Immigration Service where he retired after 30 years of service to spend time with his wife. Leo was predeceased by his wife Nan (Grenier). He is survived by his three children Fred Kondra of Martha's Vineyard, Patricia Mayhew of Derby, VT, and Pamela Gills of Cambridge, VT. He also leaves four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Leo was a lifelong member of the American Legion in North Troy, Vermont where he helped to build their Club House in his spare time. He resided on Brownington Pond in Vermont in the summer and in Haines City, Florida in the winter. Leo was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing small game and brook trout. As a lesson to his children his catch was on the dinner table that night. Leo was known for his blue hat and his big smile! A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Haines City at 10am on March 15th, 2017.
