SMITH Lewis Bond Smith, 68 of Osprey, FL passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 after a battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme Brain Cancer. Church services will be held Friday, March 18 at 11:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2705 N Tamiami Trail, Nokomis, FL. Lewie was born August 24, 1947 in Trenton, NJ to Harold “Red” and Esther ""Skippy"" Smith. His family relocated to Kansas City area where he was a graduate of Pittsburg State with a degree in Automotive Technology. Lewie worked 39 years, in sales, as a manufacturer rep with Flexco headquartered in Downers Grove, IL. His sales territory began in Kansas City and later he was able to relocate to Florida and eventually retire. He was a proud member of the Kansas Army National Guard serving as a Mess Sergeant during the Vietnam war era. He was an accomplished salesman, loving husband, father, grandfather and an avid automobile enthusiast (Lewie The Car). Lewie loved the outdoors especially just being at the beach with his family. He had a passion for working on cars and he was always in his immaculate garage enjoying his passion or working on a specific project while listening to some Doo Wop music. He enjoyed going on bike rides for miles upon miles everyday. Lewie never knew a stranger and brightened the lives of all around him with his beautiful smile and very humorous personality. He will forever be missed by all of his family and friends. Lewie is preceded in death by his parents, Harold “Red” and Esther ""Skippy"" Smith. Survivors include his beloved wife and high school sweetheart of 47 years, Merrily Smith; his sister, Nancy Moore, of Leawood, KS, his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren Jennifer (Smith) Moore, Jeff Moore, Lily Moore and Luke Moore of Macomb, MI, his daughter and son-in- law Jill Honor Smith Euston and Jason Euston of Sarasota, FL, his cousin Mary Ann Ginette of Stowe, VT, his beloved sister-in-laws Ruthe Johnson of Osprey, FL and Judy Berger of Sarasota, FL, his dear nieces and nephews Nicolee and Troy Leonard of Placentia, CA, Todd Decker of Prescott, AZ and Brent and Tara Berger of Chicago, IL. His two loving jack russells Peedie and Pinky. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the medical personnel who gave their utmost and delivered capable, compassionate care to Lewie. The family also wishes to thank the staffs at Bay Village and Tidewell Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Duke University’s Brain Tumor Center (GBM research), Our Savior Lutheran Church (Nokomis, FL) or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The burial will be at the Church's Memorial Garden at a later date. Rest in God's loving arms, our Dear One.
