Linda Bowers

Linda S Bowers, 70, passed away on Oct. 13, 2020 at Baptist Hospital. She was a survivor of residual metastatic breast cancer for over 30 years. Her only explanation was that she was blessed by God. A memorial service will be held at Thompson Funeral, 845 Leesburg Rd., Columbia, SC on October 18 at 2:00pm. Rev. Justin McGuire will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service. Linda was born in Lancaster, SC to the late Betty Elliott and Ray Bowers. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, John & Pearl Elliott, Sr. of Kershaw and Fred and Ella Bowers of Heath Springs. She is survived by her sister, Rene’ B Atkinson (Russell) Oxford MS, and two nieces Lauren A Goethe (Josh) Columbia, SC and Missy A McGuire (Justin) Oxford, MS. Linda cherished her seven Great Nieces and Nephews, Mackenzie and Addison Goethe and Peyton, Asher, Colin, Ransom & Bennette McGuire. Linda was a native to Columbia where she graduated from AC Flora High School and The Univ. of SC with a BA in Elementary Education and a MS in Instructional Design and Media. She enjoyed teaching at Denny Terrace Elementary School for 14 years, and was honored to be chosen Teacher of the Year twice. Linda ended her 30 year career in education as an administrator in Richland School District 1; receiving numerous recognitions and awards during this time. The family would like to thank Dr. Phillip Baldwin of SCOA for the care and effort he provided Linda, so that she could live a relatively normal life. The support from the staff over the years meant so much to her. A special thanks to Tess, Wendy, Michelle, Lillian & Lynn for making the tough times a little easier.
