Linda Louise (Levar) Powers, 69 of Esko entered God's Kingdom Saturday, October 14, 2017 in Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth surrounded by family after a year-long battle with Type AL Amyloidosis. Linda was born on December 1, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. In 1952 her parents Lenard and Ann (Paun) Levar moved to Babbitt, MN where Linda attended school. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1965 and in 1967 received an AA degree from Ely Junior College. In 1969 Linda received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from UMD. She taught school in Virginia, Hopkins, and Rochester, MN. Linda resided in the Minneapolis area for 39 years. She was the co-owner of R.J. Branden Galleries Furniture in Edina. For 14 years she was a computer department supervisor for Old Country Buffet's Corporate office and for 10 years was a Senior Consulting Software Instructor for Electronics for Imaging traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad. In 2009 Linda married Phillip Powers, retired, and moved to Esko. Since moving to the area she worked part-time at the Scott Powers Farmers Insurance Agency and Atkins Northland Funeral Home. Linda was a passionate quilter donating many of her projects to worthy causes. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, sports (especially hockey), and was an avid reader (preferring her books over electronic devices). By far her greatest joy and blessing was her grandchildren. Linda was preceded by her parents, Lenard and Ann Levar. She is survived by her husband, Phillip; sons, Erik and Christopher Dargontina both of Chisholm; stepchildren, Scott (Jennifer) Powers of Omaha, NE and Christina Powers (Joshua Tocko) of New Richmond, WI; grandchildren, Lauren and Abigail Dargontina and Tristan and Owen Powers; brother, Lenard (Marcelle) Levar of Babbitt; Aunty Margret Swindlehurst of Silver Bay; a nephew and many cousins. Linda's family would like to thank all of her health providers at Essentia Health including Oncology and Infusion Center. Also, special thanks to the Intensive Care Unit, Six West and Cardiology Department. Thank you to the staff at Essentia West Clinic and the great home care provided by Kindred Care (Gentiva). Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. with the recitation of the rosary at 6:45 on Thursday, October 19, 2017 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Visitation will continue from 10 until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 20th in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the church social hall. Burial will be in Babbitt. To sign the guest book and offer an online tribute, see www.atkinsnorthlandfuneralhome.com
