CAYCE: Funeral service for Lou Summer Shipley, 86, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of West Columbia, officiated by Reverend Dr. Lonnie H. Shull, Jr., and Reverend Dr. Bill Drees. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of West Columbia, Such a Time as This, P.O. Box 4898, West Columbia, SC 29171. Mrs. Shipley went to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 2, 2012. Born in West Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Loney W. Summer and Effie Lou Creech Summer. Surviving is her husband of 68 years, William "Bill" F. Shipley; her son, Franke Shipley (Linda) of Gaston; daughter, Paula S. Hawkins (Carl) of Lexington; four grandchildren, Trae Shipley, Marc Shipley, Lisa H. Wicker (Chris) and Michael Hawkins (Beth); eight great grandchildren, Caitlin, Liam, and Landon Shipley, Bradley, Austin, Cameron Grace and Davis Wicker, and Wilson Hawkins; sister, Elaine Whiteside of Lexington. She was preceded in death by great grandchildren, Alexis and Brayden Wicker; three brothers, Rodney Summers, Kenneth Summer and L.W. Summer, Jr. and three sisters, Mignon Paul, Florina Neal and Ella Rose Lever. The family would like to thank the staffs of Jenni Lynn Assisted Living and Tidewater Hospice for their thoughtfulness and care.
