Louis Bix Bechtler
January 16th, 1974 - November 26th, 2015
Louis Bix Bechtler, 41, of Lexington, SC, died Thursday, November 26, 2015 after an extended battle with cancer. Bix, born January 16, 1974 in Gaffney, SC, was the son of Ted and Betty Bechtler of Blacksburg, SC. He graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1992, where he enjoyed participating in musical and theatrical productions. Bix attended Lander University, and became a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Lander in 1997, and in 2003 completed the work required to earn his Master of Education degree. Bix worked as a school teacher in South Carolina for 19 years, most recently serving as a fifth grade teacher at Oak Grove Elementary in Lexington, SC. While at Oak Grove Bix received the 2013 Teacher of the Year award in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the success of his students. Bix, the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hall of Gaffney, SC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Bechtler of Blacksburg, SC, was a member of Mount Whitaker Baptist Church in Blacksburg, SC. In addition to his parents, those left to cherish Bix's memory are his brother Allen Bechtler of Garden City, SC; his sister Julia Brown and her husband Charlie of Lake Wylie, SC; his nephews Alex Brown of Lake Wylie, SC, and Hyatt Bechtler of Garden City, SC; his niece Emily Brown of Lake Wylie, SC; his uncle JD Hall and his wife Patsy of Gaffney, SC; his aunts Sue Dodson and her husband Rodney of Garden City, SC, and Patricia Connor and her husband Buddy of Fort Mill, SC; and many good friends, coworkers, and students. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday November 29, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home located at 4720 Augusta Road in Lexington, SC. Receiving of friends will be prior to the service at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Blacksburg, SC at 2:00 PM on Monday November 30, 2015. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210 or a charity of one's choice.
